Wedding Dress Shopping, drop-waist style and sea foam!

Hello readers!!

It's a beautiful sunny Thursday, very refreshing after it rained all day yesterday here in Toronto :-/
This week I'm talking wedding dress shopping and giving some very important tips and advice for all you 'brides to be' to think about when you begin finding your perfect bridal gown. Here goes....

Do your research

When you call a bridal store to book an appointment, they will probably ask when your wedding is, what your budget is, what style/designer you are interested in. This is so they have an idea of your personal taste and can be prepared for your appointment. So it's important that you do your own preparation. Look online at wedding dresses and designers, find out who you like and find out where they are available. This will give you a huge head start in helping you find the right dress. There are hundreds of stores so just doing a little research will help narrow it down to a select few which are to your taste.

Try to have an open mind

Of course you have some idea of what looks good on you, and probably what kind of style you want for your wedding gown....but it's still important to try on a few different styles as you never know until you try right?!
So if you have in your mind 'lace, strapless, mermaid fit' you should still try on a 'ball gown' a dress with straps and also different fabrics like like tulle, organza or silk. This way, you might realise that the idea in your mind wasn't totally accurate and you actually look better in another style, or it could help you clarify that the 'lace, strapless, mermaid' is perfect for you and trying on other styles has confirmed that.......either way it's win win!! Also remember the consultant is experienced at this, if they suggest something for you to try, trust them, they've been doing this for longer than you have!

Don't take too many along with you

Mum is normally top of the list. Then Maid of Honor or bridesmaid and or sister.......What if you have 4 sisters and 10 bridesmiads.........
Then why not chose 1 sister and 1 bridesmaid along with Mum....3 is enough and try not to exceed 4.
If you think about it, bridal stores tend to be quite boutique like, so you don't want to be crowding the place with a huge entourage! Plus, having too many opinions thrown at you will just confuse you and hinder your decision making rather than help. It also makes it less special on the day, if lots of people have already seen your dress. Oh and do not keep a picture of it on your phone....you will be constantly looking at it and end up showing more people!

Be completely honest

If you don't like something, say so. If you love something, show it! If you love the skirt on that one, but prefer the top on this one, say just that! Don't be scared to say exactly what you think, otherwise, how can they help you find your perfect wedding dress? If you're worried about forgetting each one, ask your maid of honor to make littles notes on each as you try them on. If they ask about your budget, again be honest and stick to the budget you set, you don't want to fall in love with a $4000 gown when your budget is $2000

Don't stress....take your time

As long as you've not just decided to get married next week, chances are you have plenty of time. So don't feel pressured by anyone - especially not the bridal store - into making a decision too soon when you're not 100% sure. This is the biggest day of your life remember! Think about it, go back for a second appointment, try the dress with accessories like a veil, maybe a sash, try your hair similar to how you would like it for the wedding. Ultimately, as my good friend suggested...just go with your gut feeling. Only you will know when you find 'the dress' it could be the first one you try or the tenth, but it will happen :-)

Last but certainly not least.....

Enjoy it!!

This will only happen once in your life (hopefully!) So enjoy this whole experience from start to finish. It should be lots of fun as well as a lovely chance to spend quality time with important people in your life. So smile and ENJOY!

With that said, my Mum wasn't actaully there when I found my own dress...nor were my bridesmaids. I was on tour doing a show and in Paris on my day off when I saw a stunning wedding dress in the window of a store....I thought why not go and book an appointment. So my room mate from Japan came with me and I found 'the dress'!! They let me take a picture as my Mum was back in the UK, I e-mailed it to her and she loved it. When I picked up my dress 4 months later, I went home and tried it on for my Mum and it was just as special as it would have been in the store.

My wedding Gown of this week is 'Laila' by www.paraezo.com

I love the drop-waist, and the contrasting skirt is full and ruffled but still looks light and not too heavy.....So dreamy!

Extended waist or 'drop-waist' are very popular right now, it's a great style to wear if you are shorter as it gives you height. Take a look at these other designs...

Whether you're wanting a slimline silhouette or a fuller skirt, the 'drop waist' gives length and elegance to any bridal gown.

Now for 'sea foam' I really like this color right now. We have a stunning gown in store by www.teranicouture.com that I am itching to wear (not really sure what for yet)

It has a vintage charleston feel with the waist line and skirt. LOVE!

It's a very popular color this season, take a look at 'sea foam' on the red carpet!

Well that's all for now. We have exciting things happening here at Blu Ivory Bridal, inlcuding some brand new bridal accessories and veils arriving very soon!! We are also preparing for our Grand Opening in July which will be a great weekend with lots going on in-store.....Stay tuned!!

Until next time
